Revolving Door

Sometimes it seems like my house has a revolving door on it! Last week Road Trip Home foster puppy, Lizzie left to make her journey to Maine (going to Animal Welfare Society in Kennebunk: http://animalwelfaresociety.org) in search of her forever home.

She made it there safely and is now up for adoption. I hope she finds as wonderful a home as Penny and Linus found. BTW, I got a cute photo of those 2 munchkins from their family. The family titled the photo The Sentinels. It makes my heart sing to know that Penny & Linus have such a fabulous home and that their family keeps me updated on their doings :) Penny has always been adorable. Linus has turned into a very handsome young man.

This week I am dog sitting ONE of my favorite former greyhound fosters, Autumn, while her family is out of town. Anytime I keep her for them, she always remembers where everything is and what the household routines are.  She's a sweetheart!

Then next week, Bella comes into foster with me. She's still at my vet in a 2 week standard quarantine coming (since she came from a crowded animal control).

Bella is a cute 5 month old lab probably beagle mix. She's sweet and playful. Right now, she's slated to head to Maine 3/23 with Road Trip Home.

My own dogs (and even my cat) have become very used to the "revolving door" with dogs/puppies coming and going. The only one who is probably not happy about it is Reggie. When I have a foster or other dogs/puppies who are not mine own at my house, he has to stay in his cage for his own safely. Reggie has a bad habit of getting on the floor and walking around like a little person :)

Sometime soon, I'll tell you more about Reggie. He's quite a character!

  1. Love that picture of you and all the hounds on your bed. Very cute and casual. I want to foster for Heather so bad... got to get some things off my plate!

    1. Thanks Jen. Leesia Teh took that photo. I love it too. Yes, I know RTH would love for you to foster when you can. It's nice because it's a short term foster and you know you are giving this puppy/dog (who likely wouldn't stand much of a chance here) a great start at great life. I have worked with the folks at the Maine shelter and they are terrific.

  2. Does Bella have a regular, long tail? Or just a stubby thing? If stubby, she might have some Aussie in her.

    1. Hi Kathy, actually, she does have a regular tail, she was just wagging it away at that moment. Her tail is black but reminds me of a beagle tail--not super long, but not super short. It starts out fat and ends up thinner. She's cute as a button.

    1. Thanks Lynn. I actually got word that Lizzie was adopted today, her first day up for adoption. I am thrilled. Now I just hope and pray that they contact me to let me know how she's doing soon :). I miss that little pumpkin.

  4. I miss fostering, but I don't think Morgan would take to it very well. She's a full time project, anyway! lol Lizzie is SO stinking cute!

    1. I hear you. Blaze was my challenge in the beginning when I was fostering just greyhound, but he wasn't too bad. He just wasn't too fond of sharing. Ive been fostering for asbout 3 years now so he's not worried anymore. As long as I bring in dogs who are submissive and no threat to him, he does great. He has really suprised me with how good he is with the puppies. He has even been ok with a more dominant puppy (Penny when I fostered her). He didn't view her as a threat.

I know Morgan is different though in wanting to protect and keep tabs on everything and everyone at home :)

Yes, Lizzie is a doll. I got word last night that she got adopted on the first day she was available. Now I just hope her new family will contact me in the near future to let me know how she's doing.

  5. What kind of parrot is Reggie, he looks so adorable!
Good luck to Lizzie, I hope she finds a wonderful home in Maine.
It must be very rewarding to care for dogs and see them go to their new homes.

    1. Reggie is an Eclectus parrot. The are indigent to Indonesia and parts of Australia. He's a nut. Lizzie was actually adopted within a few days of being out up for adoption. Her new family has already emailed to let me know how she's doing :)

Yes, I do love helping my fosters on the road to being a great pet and companion for their forever home. I especially try hard to stay connected to them so I can keep tabs on my previous fosters. Kind of like a Godmother--I guess in this case you could call if DogMother :)
